SimplySmart’s Alpha program focuses on each child’s unique development.

Our educators are knowledgeable on early childhood development and understand that each child blossoms in his own special way. This is why we take the time to get to know your infant before they begin care with us by asking each parent to fill out our Alpha Information Sheet so we can know how to best care for your infant. Once your child is settled in the class they will enjoy age-appropriate lessons to help them develop pre-math and pre-reading skills. Parents can read about their child’s fun-filled day in our parenting app’s daily reports.

Our Alpha Program is built around the interests and needs of the infants.

Our educators observe the children through regular interaction and fill out our observation sheets based on the Four Foundations of the How Does Learning Happen play-based curriculum in Ontario.  This helps them to track each child’s development and plan lessons that are relevant to each child’s learning goals. The educators in the Alpha class plan activities that involve fine and gross motor development, and sensory play which helps to build problem-solving and analytical thinking skills. They engage the infants in intentional play and teach through scaffolding while bonding with their young students.

Sign Language

Our educators use sign language with the infants on a daily basis to encourage language development and communication. Sign Language has been known to help children understand and use spoken language earlier as well as decrease crying and whining in infants and toddlers. ASL also promotes a strong bond between an infant and their caregiver and can potentially increase their IQ! ASL flashcards are posted in all of our Alpha classrooms to help both educators and parents learn popular infant signs.

Expressing feelings through language, gestures, or facial expressions and reacting to the feelings shown by others.

Following directions and beginning to show impulse control.

Cognitive Developmental Goals

Ignoring distractions and maintaining focus for increasing lengths of time.

Displaying problem-solving skills by seeking help or by trial and error.

Using “time-related” words, such as “tomorrow”, or “yesterday.” Using math language, such as “more,” and “all gone.”

Acting out familiar scenes through dramatic play.

Following predictable, repetitive routines.

Language Development Goals

Sitting and listening to a story, maintaining focus.
Responding to longer and more complex commands.
Combining words into increasingly longer sentences in social situations and pretend play.
Observing and attempting to join in conversations.

Physical Development Goals

Increasing full body impulse control.
Remaining coordinated during dance and action songs.
Beginning to participate in self-care routines, such as dressing and feeding themselves, holding and manipulating small objects like crayons and play objects.
