SimplySmart provides a platform for your child to develop their social skills from a very young age, recognizing their significance for future success. In today’s globalized economy, it’s crucial for children to possess the ability to engage with diverse cultures worldwide. Our multicultural program provides precisely that opportunity. Our Events calendar offers a broad global perspective, exposing children to various cultures. Additionally, our Dramatic center features dress-up attire from around the world, and we’ve curated a book showcasing our families adorned in garments from different cultures. Moreover, our teachers incorporate diverse songs and books into their interactions with the children, further broadening their understanding of cultures worldwide.
We instill early literacy skills, phonological awareness, and a fondness for books from the outset, assisting children in mastering fundamental book-handling skills such as holding the book correctly and turning pages from right to left. Through interactive reading sessions, we stimulate their minds by posing questions that encourage them to contemplate the present, past, and future. Furthermore, we aid children in identifying letters in books or within their environment. In our Gamma classrooms, children’s names are prominently displayed to aid recognition. During morning circle time, we employ engaging methods such as Jolly Phonics, songs, books, and visual aids to make learning letters and words enjoyable.
The program is designed on the principles of multi-sensory learning and consists of four main styles of learning: visual (looking at the letter), auditory (listening to the letter sound), kinesthetic (through body movement to form and trace letters), and tactile (drawing letters in sand or printing the letter on a sensory tray like sandpaper).
Equipping children with the skills to navigate their emotions effectively is essential for their success in the broader world. We engage in discussions about classroom rules to instill respect for others and the environment. Additionally, we introduce, promote, and reinforce various social skills such as sharing, negotiation, assertiveness, coping with frustrations, recognizing the need for quiet moments, and fostering empathy.
Children are encouraged to be creative, use their imagination to explore, manipulate different textures and art materials in their classrooms. Exploring primary colours and how to make secondary colours. Recycling and reusing materials collected by the room helps the children understand how to respect the environment.
Through our Science Program, the children explore the life cycle of various creatures and basic classification. There are six main classes of animals in the world: mammals, birds, fish, reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates. The children’s favourite life cycle is the life cycle of a butterfly and reading one of our favourite children’s books, The Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle.
Furthermore, we delve into the life cycles of plants and their environmental impact. Emphasizing respect for plants and trees, we engage children in activities such as planting seeds, recycling, and reusing materials. Children are encouraged to explore their surroundings using all five senses and each part of their bodies.
At SimplySmart, we integrate math and number awareness into everyday activities. Our teachers collaborate with children to engage in sorting, creating patterns, and identifying differences and similarities among classroom materials. Additionally, they utilize charts to visually illustrate these concepts to the children.
